Elon Musk, believed by some to be behind the Monolith sightings from 2020, continues to disrupt entrenched industries. Starlink, a satellite internet from SpaceX, is now taking pre-orders.
Prospective Starlink users can enter a service address on the company’s website, with preorders available for $99. Some regions show preorder messages that say SpaceX is “targeting coverage in your area in mid to late 2021,” while other preorders say 2022.

When fully operational, Starlink has may finally put a dent into the otherwise impenetrable telecom industry. Musk is not the first player to try to take on the incumbent telecom players. Google is trying too, but with an entirely different strategy, focused mostly on fiber-optic cable.
As cord-cutting, and remote work and growing incredibly fast, Starlink may have come at the right time.
And it will be available to more people soon: Access to Starlink service is expanding with each launch of a SpaceX Falcon 9 “Starlink” mission to orbit. The most recent batch of 60 Starlink satellites departed on Wednesday, pushing the number of Starlink satellites in orbit past 1,000. By the end of 2021, Starlink says it will be able to offer broadband access all around the world — the rest of the U.S. included.
